The beautiful Twin Towers were destroyed on Tuesday September 11, 2001 when two hijacked airliners were deliberately flown into them approximately 15 minutes apart. After standing forty years, the seven building complex was destroyed in one day. Today you can visit the rebuilding site and observation tower in the Winter Garden complex across the street in Battery Park City. A visitor center is also open on Vessey Street.
